All about the research of microorganisms in laboratory cultures and natural habitats in an hour
Microbiology occupies a special place in the system of biological disciplines. On the one hand, its object is an organism (albeit micro-), which makes it related to classical disciplines: zoology of vertebrates and invertebrates, botany, and so on. On the other hand, this microorganism is in most cases a single cell, which is capable of existing autonomously in a wide variety of natural environments, and thus microbiology is related to cell biology, which studies the processes occurring in the cells of higher organisms. Finally, microorganisms differ from other living things by the variety of chemical reactions they carry out, many of which play a huge role in global biogeochemical processes, which links microbiology with the earth sciences. All this determines the special research methods that exist in microbiology, which are constantly being improved, opening up new horizons. This is what will be discussed in our lectures.
